If you set the detail level to High then the AA option is greyed out and there's no in-game AA at all. The Display options allow you to switch between Low and High detail levels but you can only have anti-aliasing (AA) if you use Low detail.
Altering the in-game Gamma setting doesn't fix it, if anything it makes it worst. It's immediately noticeable as the game loads as the Activision logo background is grey not black. There's something horribly wrong with the game's default contrast/brightness levels as the game's blacks look mid-grey and all the colours are washed out.
